Everyone wants to rank high on Google. It’s every person’s dream to master the keyword or phrase that he’s been working on since he’s realized the power of SEO. But, as we all know there are websites and blogs going up everyday and to get your site to the top page of Google is not as easy as it was before. Over the course of a year I have been studying video courses and YouTube to figure out how I can use both content and videos to rank up on the first page of Google faster.

Content will always be king but if you want people to stay on your website or blog more and you want to build a stronger community you need to add video within your site. A lot of people are too shy to get in front of the camera as I was about a year ago, but the best thing about online video is that you don’t need to create it yourself. There are companies or individuals that have already created the videos that you need in order to rank on the first page of Google!

Tip #1: Use videos that are relevant to your posts

Google owns YouTube, in case you didn’t know, so that means they are always working hand in hand with each other along with WordPress. So, when you’re writing great content you want to make sure that you are including videos within your posts. Make sure that the videos that you place on your site contain the keywords that you are trying to focus on primarily. You don’t want to include a video talking about dog accessories if your post is talking about dog parks. Stay within your same keyword so when Google crawls your site it’s easier for them to rank that post. Now, this is going to take some work but make sure that you do this and you do it consistently.

Tip #2: Add video to your guest posts

If you’re not guest blogging then make sure that you put that in your blog business plan and guest post twice per week. But, when you guest post, focus on doing “How To” posts and tutorials on different products to use. The reason you should focus on that is because there are always videos out there that cater to the subject matter you are writing about.  So, when you are guest posting you then insert your videos within your content so that your readers could get a better understanding of your content. When Google sees that you are inserting their videos from YouTube on your blog posts, you are going to rank higher and quicker than someone who is using Vimeo or other video sharing services. Guest blogging alone helps you rank higher for specific keywords but when you start using videos alongside your guest posts, you are now opening up more opportunities to master that keyword or phrase you are going after.

Tip #3: Find videos with relevant title keywords and tags

However, you don’t just want to insert any kind of video from YouTube. That is one of the biggest mistakes that people do with video. If you haven’t created the video yourself or outsourced it to a video guy then you want to make sure you are choosing the correct videos for your posts. Now, this is going to take some time but it’s going to be well worth it. Go look on YouTube and type in a keyword or a phrase you have wanted to rank for. Look for the views on that video and see if they are high and also check the tags of that video. If the tags compliment the keyword or phrase you are trying to rank for then use that video. Don’t just grab the first video that pops up. You want to grab the video that is using both the title keyword and tags in that video that match what you are trying to rank for.

Post Recap:
Make sure that you include video in your blog posts or website at least twice to three times per week when you’re writing content. When you’re searching for videos, make sure that the keywords in both the title and the tags in the video are matching. When guest blogging make sure that you get permission of the webmaster before you insert a video and if it’s okay with them then find the correct video to go along with that blog post.

If you are using WordPress, download a plug-in called Vipers Video Quicktags and it will be easier for you to insert video into your blog posts.

  2. Hey Adam, very good advice. I always try to include at least one video on my blog posts. And I was ranking pretty good until my stupid backlinking trick caught up with me. But that's another discussion :-)

One more reason to include video on your blog is that video use is increasing every day and pretty soon people are going to start looking at blogs that contain videos only. So, if you're a text based blog your days are numbered.
