I’ve been intending to put together such a list for quite some time. In this list of ways to attract success I’ve compiled resources that I use, quotes and tips I’ve collected from other wise people over time, and principles and beliefs I live by. There’s also a lot of advice taken from Napoleon Hill’s timeless classic, Think and grow rich. Most of the resources, except for the paperback books and The SGR Program, are free. I hope you find this list valuable, and I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments. Let’s crowdsource another success list and change the world!
You are more than welcome to use the list on your blog or newsletter, but please be kind and refer people here.
- Formula for success: Rise early, work hard, strike oil (Jean Paul Getty)
- Kickstart your day with the Prosperity affirmation. Read it aloud. It’s very powerful.
- Read Think and grow rich (read online or buy on Amazon). If you read one success book, let it be this one.
- Read The millionaire mindset and A happy pocket full of money.
- Read The power of NOW. Be present!
- Read any or all of these blogs and newsletters: Edel O’Mahony, Steve Pavlina, Early to Rise, Get Altitude (site is closed but you can still register for the newletter), Turbozine (if you’re into Internet marketing).
- Listen to Earl Nightingale’s Strangest secret. If you listen to one thing, make it this one.
- Watch/Listen to Agape Live, Michael Beckwith’s spiritual community, on Sundays and Wednesdays. Better yet, attend a service if you’re around LA. Learn more about Agape.
- Listen to Stephen Pierce’s Momentum Mixx as often as possible. These motivational audios will help you shake off your fears and doubts, transform your thinking and move into action (if you only allow them to).
- Listen to interviews with millionaires.
- Listen. Develop the habit of listening carefully to others. You will notice that successful people will often sit silently and really absorb the words floating around them, rather than being smart-asses trying to win every discussion when they actually have no clue about it.
- Eat well. Prepare healthy food and enjoy the process. You’ll be more inspired to tuck into it.
- Exercise regularly. This will improve your feeling, help you think more clearly and use your day more efficiently. No gym membership?
- Tidy up your workspace so you can think clearly. Clutter will confuse and distract you, thus hampering your success.
- Meditate. So you can think. There are many techniques for that. Find one that works for you.
- Master a ‘time management’ system, so you can relax (otherwise your mind will be constantly occupied with the next 100 things you need to get done). I recommend Robert Allan’s Getting things done (excellent albeit a bit sophisticated) or Erica Douglass’ simple yet efficient time management system.
- Love yourself. You will find it much harder to succeed if you don’t love others. And you can’t love others if you don’t love yourself first. You can’t give what you haven’t got…
- Be generous. Tune into the joy of giving. Give as much as you can, to as many as possible, unconditionally. Give for the sake of giving. It doesn’t have to be cash, by the way. You can share knowledge, give of your time, love and care to others. There’s a reason rich people like giving. They know it always comes back to them at the end.
- Open your mind. Always ask: What can I learn? It doesn’t matter whether you like a person or not, whether you agree with them completely or not. In every person and every situation there’s a gift for you. Be open and you’ll discover it.
- Express gratitude. For everything in your life. For every breath you take. For the food you can put on the table. Even for the mistakes that you make. No reason to be grateful? Then be thankful that you’re able to read this article. Not everyone can.
- Be humble. You know what you’re worth. And if you really are, we can tell. No need to brag and boast.
- Be persistent. Don’t give up at the first signs of defeat. Persevere until you see your task completed. Remember: It’s either done, or it ain’t done. Half done ain’t done. Nearly done ain’t done. And ain’t done don’t make you jack (Marlon Sanders).
- Be honest. Need I say more?
- Be a role model. Hold yourself accountable. Practice what you preach.
- Be sociable. Be pleasant. You will need to cooperate with other people in order to succeed and grow.
- Be careful the environment you choose for it will shape you; be careful the friends you choose for you will become like them (W. Clement Stone). Avoid negative/judgmental/doubtful/otherwise toxic people. Either guide them to success or else shake them off your life. Unless they’re your parents, that is.
- Choose your words carefully. Remove any doubt words such as Like, Maybe, If, Hopefully from your vocabulary. Instead of saying: If I get this funding, I will complete the project say: When I get this funding… or better yet: Now that I’ve got this funding, I’m completing the project. (When saying affirmations, use the present tense). Here’s a quote I love: Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny (unknown).
- Choose your business associates carefully. In Think and grow rich, Napoleon Hill defines wrong selection of associates as one of the most common causes of failure in business. Pick employers, employees and business partners who are intelligent, successful, inspiring and worth emulating.
- Choose your vocation carefully. Select an occupation, which is an expression of your passion. You will spend most of your time working, after all, and as Napoleon Hill pointed out no man can succeed in a line of endeavor, which he does not like.
- Choose your partner carefully. Napoleon Hill warns that an intimate relationship that is not harmonious is likely to result in failure. This kind of failure can be especially bitter and destroy all signs of ambition.
- Learn from your mistakes.
- Learn from others mistakes because you don’t live long enough to make them all yourself (traditional proverb).
- Observe your equals. Do your best and more…
- Invest in your education. Never stop learning. Learning is more than getting a college/university degree. Buy books, courses, attend workshops, seminars, conferences and so on. Learning is earning and will help you grow and contribute to others in your area of interest.
- Don’t overwhelm yourself with information. Information, like food, needs to be consumed with care.
- Get a mentor. This is your fastest way to succeed and well worth the investment, if you are mentored by someone who’s already successful in your field. Remember that your best thinking got you here… so it might be worth getting a second opinion…
- Travel. Visit remote, exotic unexplored places. Go to poor countries. This will keep you open-minded and will show you how success can come in many different ways.
- Consider investing in a full-fledged mindset course. I recommend The SGR Program. The program is based on The science of getting rich, the book that had inspired The Secret movie. I use the program and can’t recommend it enough.
- Form your own mastermind group, or join an existing one. Napoleon Hill defines a mastermind as: Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose. Hill recognized the power of the mastermind by dedicating a whole chapter to it on his book Think and grow rich. Mastermind members can also hold each other accountable for actions they commit to take. You can find marketing mastermind groups here. For other niches visit relevant forums or use your social media connections to find like-minded people. Now all you need is Skype/train ticket and commitment!
- Go for a walk and observe the nature. This will connect you to energy, to the Source, to your higher mind (thanks Edel).
- Bid farewell to your ego. Set yourself free from this heavy burden of judgment, doubts, fears, criticism, vanity and so on. Who needs it?
- Set goals. Without goals you’ll get nowhere.
- Focus. Concentrate all your efforts in one chief aim. Don’t be a jack-of-all-trades.
- Take action. Inspired action. Remember: Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy (Dale Carnegie).
- Take chances. No noble thing can be done without risks (Michel de Montaigne).
- Work hard. Apparently, Even Tim Ferris works about 44 hours a week. When you’re pursuing your passion it doesn’t feel like work anymore, does it?
- Start creating instead of competing. Be at cause. Being competitive implies to the Universe that you believe in lack and therefore you will attract more of it. The Universe is abundant, there’s more than enough for everyone.
- You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want (Zig Ziglar).
- Go to live events and seminars where you can meet like-minded people and help each other succeed.
- Don’t be afraid. The only thing we have to fear Is fear itself (Franklin D. Roosevelt). Throw off the shackles of fear that hold you back, immobilize you and stand between you and success.
- Don’t talk too much. Do more and then talk about what you actually did.
- Don’t think you can get something for nothing. The value that you will receive must be in direct proportion to the service that you give. Period.
- Don’t watch the news. Skip to the weather forecast if you really have to
- Never lie on your laurels. Even when you think you couldn’t get more successful. Allow positive feedback to encourage you and guide you to improvements.
- Read the following quote aloud. Print it off and hang it by your desk: Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you (Matthew 7:7).

Love this list dude… Power of Now and Think and Grow Rich are HUGE influences to me… Nice work!
Thanks Sal. These books are landmarks, aren't they? They've really shaped my thinking…
So, thanks to tip 35 I am bookmarking this page to come back to!! Oh, and sharing it on all my networking sites thanks to tip 18!!
Great tips.
Another tip: For every negative word (thought, action, etc) you need 10,000 positive words (etc) to counterbalance. This kind of feeds into tips 26 and 27 and to an extent the tips about people you associate with too.. Surround yourself with people who are lifting you up and inspiring you, not putting you down!!
Thanks so much!!
Thanks for your comment and tips Heidi.
I'm glad to see that you're already taking action.
I love your new tips and will certainly add it to the next list, crediting you of course.
10k positive words is quite a bit though, isn't it? Don't know if I get to that in a single year…
Adam, I love this article, visualisation is an important part of achieving your goals. I learnt recently that Mohamed Ali visualised and predicited the outcome of 17 of his fights accurately. That says so much about the power of both goal setting and using your imagination.
